December 6, 2025. Scribes—The American Society of Legal Writers—is pleased to announce that Michele M. Jochner, its newly installed President, is the 2025 Joseph Kimble Distinguished Service Award winner. Outgoing Scribes President Darby Dickerson presented the award yesterday during the organization’s annual awards ceremony.

The Joseph Kimble Distinguished Service Award—named in honor of a long-time Scribes director and former executive director—recognizes individuals who have made exceptional, sustained contributions to Scribes and to the advancement of legal writing. Jochner’s selection reflects her extraordinary leadership and deep commitment to the organization.
As Scribes’ Vice President, Jochner played a pivotal role in strengthening the organization. “Michele embodies the spirit of this award,” said Dickerson. “Her work ethic, strategic insight, diplomacy, and dedication to excellence have elevated Scribes in meaningful and lasting ways.” Jochner’s efforts included hosting a Board retreat, securing a major sponsorship, helping draft Scribes’ new mission statement, and outreach to the judiciary.
Jochner is a partner at Schiller DuCanto & Fleck LLP in Chicago and a nationally recognized authority on appellate advocacy and legal writing.
