The Scribes Journal of Legal Writing

About the Scribes Journal
The Scribes Journal of Legal Writing has long been a leading voice on matters of legal writing and style. The Journal has been cited in dozens of court opinions and in more than 900 articles and commentaries. The Journal has even found its way onto the pages of The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Forbes.
The Journal seeks to promote better writing within the legal community and has a purposely eclectic bent. Its editors are lawyers and academics with a special passion for legal writing and style.
Besides works by prominent academics and practitioners, the Journal has published pieces by many judges and other notable public figures. The Journal has also published interviews with eight U.S. Supreme Court justices and five U.S. Court of Appeals judges.
AI Policy: Because ours is a publication dedicated to the craft of writing, the Journal does not publish manuscripts in which generative artificial intelligence was used to produce or substantially revise the substantive text. But a submission is not disqualified by an author’s use of AI for research assistance or for editing human-generated text for concision, citation form, or mechanics. And the Journal may permit AI-generated visuals, such as charts or graphs.
To submit an article for consideration or request permission to use or reproduce published materials, please email the editor in chief, Professor Megan E. Boyd, at megan.e.boyd@gmail.com.
